Katarina Nummi-Kuisma was trained as a pianist at the Sibelius Academy and completed her studies in London and in Vienna. Since 1977 she has worked as a piano and chamber music teacher at the Espoo Music Institute, the leading music school in Finland. During 37 years of teaching she has trained many nationally and internationally known pianists and price winners, such as Paavali Jumppanen and Jukka Nykänen. She is specialized in pedagogical training and gives regularly seminars in continuing education for teachers as well as master classes for students extensively in music schools and conservatoires around Europe.
She has developed innovative teaching and training methods especially directed for instrumental learning at all levels through extensive studies in techniques in mental imagery. She also runs an active practice in mental training for professional musicians and artists in other fields. Currently she is engaged in Post Doc research at the DocMus Unit of the Sibelius Academy in the University of the Arts in Helsinki.
Nummi-Kuisma is the Artistic Director of International Masterclasses and Concerts in Raudaskylän Soiva Kesä festival (2000 –) and Visionova oy.
She is the President of the Finnish Piano Teachers’ Association (EPTA Finland) since 2012.
